Fall quarter is almost here! Plan for increased traffic and parking congestion as students return to campus. Between September 17 and 27, several events and activities will impact key parking facilities and surrounding areas.
Starting September 2024, parking rates on the Davis campus will increase to ensure Transportation Services can meet its obligation to maintain safe and sustainable infrastructure for our campus community. Monthly permits will increase $5 and daily permits will increase $0.25 for L and M zones and $0.50 for A, C+, and C zones.
On Thursday, May 16, campus began work on the Pavilion Parking Structure to restrict public vehicle and pedestrian access to levels 5 and 6 of the structure. Fencing will be installed on the ramps, elevators will no longer stop at levels 5 and 6 and the stairwell above the 4th floor will be locked. These levels will now only be accessible to campus-authorized vehicles.
Bikes are a fairly normal thing in Davis, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take time to lift them up and celebrate them. May is National Bike Month, established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, and continues locally as we celebrate 20 years of May is Bike Month with our pals at Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA).
In an effort to enhance safety for anyone traveling on the Davis campus, Transportation Services is excited to introduce the Traffic Ambassador Program, which has launched at the Silo. Traffic Ambassadors are trained students who are facilitating the safe movement of traffic at the Silo terminal on Hutchison Drive, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A potential AMP Park security vulnerability was discovered and reported to Transportation Services and the Information Security Office on the evening of Tuesday, February 13. Upon notification of the issue, the developer of AMP Park, AIMS, took immediate action to address the vulnerability. There was no data breach, and no personally identifiable information was accessed.
In November 2023 Transportation Services launched the much anticipated UC Davis Campus Commuter Card Benefits Program, offering a pre-tax benefit account with a reloadable VISA card to pay for commute-related expenses. The program, administered by the HealthEquity family of companies, is available to UC Davis employees on the Davis and satellite campuses.
Children’s bicycle helmets handed out at events on campus last year have been recalled by the manufacturer.
The helmets, Retrospec Scout in sizes small and extra-small, were given out by the UC Davis Police Department at events like Picnic Day, Thank Goodness for Staff, Take Our Children to Work Day and elsewhere between April and June.
The department distributed 76 of the helmets, purchased with a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
Parking Rates are Increasing Starting on September 1
Parking rates, both daily and monthly, will increase starting on September 1, 2023,to ensure that Transportation Services meets its obligation to maintain safe and sustainable infrastructure used by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. The department is responsible for the maintenance of safe, accessible parking areas and campus mobility.
Dr. Perry Eggleston, Executive Director of Transportation Services, was recognized by the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI) for his years of experience and dedication to finding innovative solutions for transportation and mobility challenges with the 2023 James M. UC Davis is transitioning from ParkMobile to a new parking platform - AggiePark via the AMP Park app. The process to purchase daily permits is similar to ParkMobile but the switch to AMP Park app offers a simpler, more convenient parking experience and several new benefits:
Transportation Services and Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) signed a new memorandum of agreement (MOU) to extend the Causeway Connection service between Davis and Sacramento through May 3, 2025.
We’re excited to see Spring Quarter here. We’re still buzzing from Picnic Day and looking forward to Whole Earth Festival, and one of our favorite things, seeing many of you Moo-vers graduate. But more on that later. 🚲 🎓 🐄
