Introducing the Traffic Ambassador Program
Addressing Congestion at the Silo
In an effort to enhance safety for anyone traveling on the Davis campus, Transportation Services is excited to introduce the Traffic Ambassador Program, which has launched at the Silo. Traffic Ambassadors are trained students who are facilitating the safe movement of traffic at the Silo terminal on Hutchison Drive, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Silo area is particularly congested during passing periods when thousands of pedestrians, cyclists, other transportation devices, and buses are entering and departing the terminal. Traffic Ambassadors are focused on stopping road users and pedestrians to allow Unitrans buses to safely enter and exit the terminal.
In addition to traffic management, in the coming weeks, Traffic Ambassadors will offer pedestrians informational resources and materials to promote safe travel on campus. Resources will include best practices on how to share our roads and paths responsibly.
Modeled after the Traffic Director Program at UC Irvine, some Traffic Ambassadors are receiving additional training to manage road user and pedestrian traffic for major events on campus and other incidents and disruptions. After thorough safety training, you may see students providing traffic control at intersections on campus soon.
