UC Davis Earns Platinum Bicycle Friendly Business Designation
The University of California, Davis has earned renewed distinction as a Platinum Bicycle Friendly Business from the League of American Bicyclists.
This recognition builds on UC Davis’ recent Platinum status as a Bicycle Friendly University, reinforcing its position as a national leader in campus cycling infrastructure, education, and advocacy. With both designations, UC Davis is now one of only two universities in the nation to hold Platinum status as both a Bicycle Friendly University and a Bicycle Friendly Business.
What Platinum Means
The Platinum designation is reserved for organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to building a welcoming and bike-supportive workplace. This prestigious recognition highlights UC Davis’ continued commitment to creating an environment that supports safe, accessible, and sustainable cycling for employees and visitors alike. The League evaluates businesses on infrastructure, education, encouragement, policies, and community engagement—areas where UC Davis continues to excel.
“The Bicycle Friendly Business award is a special award, as it recognizes the broad support that campus has for not just students, but also the faculty and staff who choose to ride for their commutes. While they are vastly out-numbered by students, we understand that a significant number of them are able to bike to work, and we're thankful for each and everyone who makes a bike part of their campus commute. Be that people who bike from Woodland, Sacramento, and further, or those who bike their children to school before they arrive on campus, we're thankful for all of those Aggies who ride.
It's a delight to see the variety of bikes that our campus faculty and staff use to live life by bike." -Jeffrey P. Bruchez (Active Modalities Manager)
National Recognition
UC Davis holds this platinum recognition through 2029, a four year recognition that reflects measurable progress and continued accountability in advancing bicycle-friendly workplace practices.
“You should take great pride in the bike-friendly workplace you have created for your employees and visitors.” -Amelia Neptune, Director of Bicycle Friendly America
Amelia noted that the award reflects a rigorous evaluation process and recognizes institutions that demonstrate sustained leadership in cycling infrastructure, education, encouragement programs and workplace support.
The League’s recognition highlights UC Davis’ commitment to encouraging sustainable commuting options, expanding inclusive bike parking for adaptive cycles, and strengthening safety awareness across campus. Maintaining Platinum designation requires ongoing progress and innovation, and UC Davis continues to build on this momentum through initiatives that support active commuters and promote a culture where bicycling is safe, accessible, and encouraged. Efforts such as Moving Forward Together and the Micromobility Safety Corridors. initiative reflects the university’s continued focus on improving safety and enhancing the campus cycling experience.
