Platinum Again: UC Davis Recognized as Platinum Bicycle Friendly University
UC Davis has once again earned Platinum status from the League of American Bicyclists in the 2025 Bicycle Friendly University awards
UC Davis' platinum status is the highest possible designation and a recognition of the campus’s long-standing leadership in bicycle safety, infrastructure, and sustainable transportation.
What Platinum Means
Platinum status is reserved for universities that demonstrate exceptional commitment to safe, accessible and innovative bicycle programs. The League evaluates campuses on infrastructure, education, planning, and community engagement-areas where UC Davis continues to excel.
Why UC Davis Earned Platinum Again
This year, the league highlighted UC Davis for acting on previous recommendations and expanding accessibility, including updated bike-parking standards that now support adaptive cycles such as tricycles and cargo bikes.
"Bikes are tools to make the world a better place, and we feel immensely lucky to be working together with the League [and the Bicycle Friendly America program] to show people the power of bicycling.” -- UC Davis
Safer Campus, Stronger Community
Maintaining Platinum requires constant progress. UC Davis continues to invest in safety initiatives like enhancing the awareness of the campuswide 15 mph speed limit on campus core roads and bike paths part of a human centered approach to reducing collisions and improving visibility for riders and pedestrians.
UC Davis has long been recognized as a leader in promoting bicycling, and this renewed Bicycle Friendly University award highlights the innovative projects we continue to implement. I’m proud to support campus bicyclists and pedestrians, and this recognition belongs to the students, faculty, and staff who help keep our campus bike able, accessible, and an enjoyable place to ride. -Jeffrey P. Bruchez (Active Modalities Manager)
Working Toward Bicycle Friendly Business
Transportation Services is also pursuing the Bicycle Friendly Business designation to further support staff and faculty who commute by bike. Inclusive parking, safety education and commuter resources all contribute to building a bike friendly workplace culture.
We hope that the League recognizes the commitment that we provide to keeping campus accessible for our visitors, faculty, and staff, with a forthcoming announcement about our Bicycle Friendly Business designation.
Thanks for riding!
