Get Ready for May is Bike Month, With Incentives to Help You Ride

Looking for a new bike? Need repairs or gear to make your commute easier? The May is Bike Month Incentive (MIBM) can help get you ready to ride.

New incentives are now available to help you buy a new bike or get your bike ready for the upcoming May is Bike Month challenge.

First: Sign up with NorCal GO to track your rides

Join NorCal GO to track your rides and compete with other organizations (teams) in the region to see who can ride the most. NorCal GO is the official trip-planning app from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG).

Not only can it help track your riding, it is also a robust tool to help you plan a commute, find a carpool buddy and even find peers to bike commute with. Signing up is easy and a great way to track your trips and calculate out how much you can save by trying to commute by bike, carpool, transit, or a combination of modes.

Once signed up, you can join the UC Davis on NorCalGo and joining “UC Davis - Wheelie Cool Aggies.”

May is Bike Month celebrates local bike culture in the greater Sacramento Area.

NOTE: As of April 22, all funds have been exhausted. Thanks for all the Aggies who participated.

Looking for a new bike, or need some parts to make your bike better? The popular Yolo Commute MIBM Incentive Program is back.

The program offers incredible incentives to help you get a new bike or an eBike, or cover the costs for parts, repairs or accessories to keep your current bike on the road.

UC Davis employees are eligible for:

  • $400 towards the purchase of an eBike
  • $300 towards the purchase of a bike
  • $150 that can be used at local shops for repairs, parts and accessories

Read more about the Yolo Commute MIBM Incentive Program and FAQs.

Notes: No advance approval is required, but purchases must be made at a local shop in the greater Sacramento Area, including the Counties of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba. All purchases must be made at a full service bike shop, meaning one that offers repair services. Incentives are first-come, first-served, with first-time recipients prioritized until April 15, 2026. Reimbursements are issued 45 days after you submit your incentive request. Recipients of the e-bike or bike incentive in 2025 are not eligible for the same incentive in 2026, but may apply for the $150 incentive.

Reminders

Sign up with NorCalGO, and start tracking your rides. Ride safely, get a free helmet via Helmet Hair Don’t Care, and learn the skills to cycle confidently with traffic via our free CyclingSavvy education on Canvas

Throughout April and May staff will continue piloting Safety Corridors at various locations on campus, helping remind people to obey traffic rules and ride respectfully. Don’t get caught by our staff, like seen in this fun video. Remember: slow down at intersections, yield to pedestrians crossing, ride with one headphone in (or none) and obey the campus wide speed limit of 15 miles per hour.

I’ll see you all on the cycle track! ✌♥🚲
