Street Name Change, From Orchard to Blue Ridge Road

Quick Summary

  • A segment of Orchard Road will be renamed to Blue Ridge Road
  • Official name-change to take place as early as July 1
  • Blue Ridge comes from the Blue Ridge Berryessa Natural Area and the Blue Ridge Mountains

A segment of Orchard Road (not Orchard Park Drive, not Orchard Park Circle) is getting a new name on July 1 - Blue Ridge Road. Confused about all the Orchard-named-things in one area? You’re not alone and it’s partly the reason for the fresh designation. The new segment of Blue Ridge Road runs east and west and is located between the Domes and the ARC. The new name gives everyone from first responders to delivery drivers clearer direction when navigating the area. Renaming Orchard Road as Blue Ridge Road also recognizes UC Davis’ important connection to the mountain skyline visible to the west of campus and visible from West Village.

The Blue Ridge namesake comes from the Blue Ridge Berryessa Natural Area and the Blue Ridge Mountains, overseen by a conservation partnership of over 100 members, including the University of California Natural Reserve System. This protected area is largely conserved for recreation, wild spaces and agricultural use.

New street signs will be placed July 1 and online map updates are in the works. The new Blue Ridge Road will run from the Hwy 113 bike overpass to La Rue Road, but will not include Orchard Road east of La Rue Road. There are plans to convert the remaining stretch of Orchard Road along with improvements to the intersection and Parking Lot 25 in the coming years.
