May marks the celebration of Bike Month!
Whether you bike to campus every day or are just getting started, Bike Month offers opportunities to build new habits, connect with others and take advantage of incentives and events designed to support your ride.
Bike Month also goes hand in hand with Safety Month, reinforcing the importance of building safe, consistent habits every time you ride. This year, Safety Month features a dedicated week on bike safety, offering tips and resources to help you ride confidently and responsibly.
Get Started: Ride, Track and Compete
Kick off your Bike Month by joining the regional challenge:
- Sign up for NorCal GO to track your rides, plan commutes and connect with other riders
- Join the UC Davis team — Wheelie Cool Aggies — and log your miles throughout May
- Compete with organizations across the region and see your impact in real time
Tracking your trips helps you measure progress, reduce car use and even calculate cost savings from biking or combining trips with transit.
Incentives to Help You Ride
Getting started — or upgrading your ride — has never been easier. Through the Yolo Commute May is Bike Month Incentive Program, eligible UC Davis employees can receive:
- Up to $400 toward an e-bike
- Up to $300 toward a standard bike
- Up to $150 for repairs, parts or accessories
These incentives are designed to remove barriers and help you ride more often, whether you’re brand new to biking or maintaining your current setup.

Notes: No advance approval is required, but purchases must be made at a local shop in the greater Sacramento Area, including the Counties of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba.
Ride Safe: Bike Month Meets Safety Month
Bike Month and Safety Month go hand in hand.
As you ride more, take time to build safe habits that protect you and others:
- Follow the 15 mph speed limit
- Use lights and reflective gear when riding at night
- Secure your bike properly to prevent theft
- Stay alert and aware of pedestrians and other riders
Safety Month highlights that small actions taken consistently reduce risk and build a safer community.
